New to the Durham area, I have supported K-12 students in private and public schools in Los Angeles, New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta for nearly a decade. Drawing on my background as a restorative justice practitioner, I use strengths-based coaching and relationship-building techniques to help students accomplish their academic and personal goals.
View My CVWhen a student is struggling academically, the whole family is affected. As a student’s academic tutor or executive functioning coach, my goal is not only to help the individual student thrive, but also to support the entire community around that student.
Through regularly scheduled sessions, K-8 students change the negative narratives they believe about themselves as learners, embrace a growth mindset and redefine their relationship to learning. Students are not only empowered to earn higher grades, but also emerge as confident, resilient learners who are ready to take on any challenge!
Over the course of the school year, students prepare to pass their AP exams in May and June. Together, we focus on effective strategies for the multiple choice, short answer, long essay and oral components of each respective exam. These skills and habits set students up for success in college courses and beyond.
With my support, students discover their learning style and develop a wide range of sustainable skills including digital and phsyical organizational skills, time management, short-term and long-term goal setting and contextualized study skills. Students gradually take ownership over their learning by communicating with their teachers independently and advocating for their needs in and outside of the classroom.
