I genuinely believe in the full potential of every student and that—with creative, compassionate, and personalized academic and executive functioning support—all students can succeed both in and outside of the classroom. My greatest hope is that, through our work together, students learn to trust themselves and their abilities.
Raised in Los Angeles with Southern roots, I moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University. From there, I made my way to the home of the blues—the Mississippi Delta—where I first fell in love with teaching as a Teach For America Corps Member. I later brought my skills to South Central Los Angeles, where I served as an elementary teacher and Restorative Justice Coordinator with the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools. Through coordinating cleft lip and palate surgical missions in eight Latin American countries with the nonprofit Operation Smile, I developed a love of Spanish and a global perspective that deeply inform my work with students.
After nearly a decade in public education, I opened Cooper Haskins Tutoring LLC in 2022 to make a deeper, more personal, and longer-lasting impact. Now based in Durham, NC, I serve students around the globe—from Indiana to the Netherlands.
While I take this work seriously, I don’t take myself too seriously and infuse each session with joy and humor. My teaching assistant, a Pitbull/Hound mix named Leo, can often be found in the background of sessions, doing his part to help students feel safe, happy, and encouraged.
